GAS TANK REPAIR TIPS
Severely rusted tanks: First and foremost, knock out scale and
heavy rust by putting stones or marbles in the tank and banging
it around. It is not suggested using metal objects that could
cause sparking. The next step is a good cleaning and etching
with metal prep or rust removers. Sloshing this metal prep in
and leaving it in overnight or as long as necessary is suggested.
DRAIN PREP COMPLETELY AND CHECK THAT IT HAS COMPLETELY DRIED. After
the tank dries out, dump the entire contents of the sealer in
through the sending unit hole. SPECIAL NOTE: Sending unit screws should have a dab of grease on the threads
and ran halfway in. Drain holes can be kept open by shoving vacuum
line coated with a light film of oil to prevent clogging. After
the sealer dries, simply remove the hose. Be sure to coat the
inside of the tank evenly with a thin film coat of the MasterSeries
Permanent Rust Sealer. Drain entire contents back into the can
and replace the lid immediately. After coating has dried for
a minimum of two hours, a second coat is recommended. After the
second coat is throroughly drained, leave tank stand on end to
ensure all excess sealer is drained out completely. NOTE: AVOID PUDDLING; THIN COATS ARE RECOMMENDED.
DO NOT PUT BACK INTO CAN OR LID MAY BLOW OFF.
Outside leaks, pinholes, and crack seams: MasterSeries Permanent
Rust Sealer Silver is recommended for the outside of the tank.
Some applications will not require removal of the tank. Area
to be coated must be dry and clean. Two coats are recommended.
The pigment from the bottom can be spread over holes to seal larger holes. COATING SHOULD BE DRY TO TOUCH BEFORE RECOATING OR RESEALING.
