When you want to dissolve rust quickly and achieve a clean surface, fast acting Mastercoat Metal Prep & Rust Remover from The Master Series Coating Line is the answer. According to customer feedback, Mastercoat Metal Prep & Rust Remover is "like Captain Lee's Rust Away and and Metal Prep in one"! It's a highly aggressive rust remover that dissolves light rust in five minutes and promotes adhesion for Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer. Disclaimer: can be used on heavy rust, but surface may turn black/gray and not come completely clean. Unlike other metal preps, Mastercoat Metal Prep & Rust Remover contains zinc, which promotes adhesion for primer or paint. Ideal for prepping a gas tank inside and out. It will also keep stored parts rust-free for up to a year. Available in three convenient sizes: quart, half gallon, & gallon. WARNING: IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO APPLY METAL PREP TO SURFACES WHICH HAVE PAINT ON THEM. If the surface has a mix of rusted metal and paint on it, it is not recommended to use Metal Prep unless you are able to use it on the rusted metal parts ONLY. If you have paint in hard to reach areas, the Metal Prep may run and cause the paint to gum up. If the Metal Prep is accidentally applied to paint, neutralize with water immediately.

ATTENTION! READ THIS IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT AVAILABILITY AND SUBSTITUTES & USE: If Mastercoat Metal Prep is unavailable, you may use a metal prep of a different brand that is phosphoric acid, preferably with zinc as an ingredient. YES, you may use Ospho or any metal prep that contains phosphoric acid. Apply and let dry on the surface, do not rinse/neutralize. Make sure surface is completely dried and apply rust sealer. Even if all rust is not dissolved or surface re-rusts, rust sealer can still be applied and will encapsulate the rust. RUST SEALER CAN ALSO BE APPLIED WITHOUT THE USE OF METAL PREP. Just remove any loose scale, wipe clean with mineral spirits, and apply rust sealer according to package instructions.

PLEASE NOTE, MASTERCOAT IS A RUST PREVENTATIVE SYSTEM. This product is only one part of the system. Prepare the surface by sandblasting, or with wire wheels and grinders. If the surface has paint on it, remove as much as possible and scuff up any tightly adhering paint. Clean contaminants on the surface with mineral spirits. Use Metal Prep or another phosphoric acid based metal prep (optional) on surfaces which have NOT been painted, apply two coats of Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer Original or Slim, and 1-2 coats of Mastercoat AG111, Mastercoat Black Chassis Finish, or your own topcoat. Not adhering to this system may not achieve the desired results.
