Spray Application FAQ

FAQs about spraying Mastercoat products.

Yes, you can spray all Mastercoat products with a paint spray gun.

Generally all products can be sprayed at 10% with medium urethane reducer or MCT101, which is also a medium urethane reducer. It is best to start at about 5% (just a capful or so!) and work your way up to 10%, just enough to get it through your gun. Be careful not to overreduce.

We recommend medium urethane reducer or MCT101 thinner, which is a medium urethane reducer for all of our products. You can use mineral spirits for the rust sealers, but no other products. If you use mineral spirits, start off very sparingly.

MCT101 is Mastercoat brand medium urethane reducer, specially formulated for our products. In a pinch you can use a different brand medium urethane reducer.

Anywhere between 1.8 and 2.3, but 2.0 works best for most of our products. Be advised that if you use a smaller tip (like 1.8), you may need a little more thinner, like around 10%. Use just enough thinner to get it through the tip you're using.

Yes, absolutely. If you are spraying in a shop or garage, make sure you have proper ventilation and use an air supplied mask. If you are spraying outdoors, wear a face covering such as a charcoal respirator, preferably one with cartridges. 3M brand masks work well.

Pretty much any paint gun with a 2.0 tip (reduction may vary depending on the gun), but we find a gravity gun works best.

Be careful not to add too much thinner when spraying. Use a 2.0 tip and just enough thinner to get the paint through your gun. If you add too much thinner to AG111 satin, it can become gloss.
