Thicker or Thinner? Which is Better?

Is a thicker coating system more effective than a thinner film build?

The answer is, it all depends.

In the case of Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer, a thinner viscosity will penetrate more deeply into the rust, providing better corrosion resistance on a rusted surface. On clean blasted steel, the original formula Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer and the Slim version are equally as effective. The original formula, which is a latex type consistency, is good for brushing, rolling on vertical surfaces, and filling in pitting. Our Slim fomula of Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer is the same product but without a thickening agent.

Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer Slim is sprayable from the container with a 1.8 / 2.0 tip. This is an excellent base primer for body work on panels, and you can use any type of primer and paint over it. Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer Slim is used in gas tanks as a sloshing compound because of its thinner consistency.

Mastercoat Custom Chassis Black Finish, our latest version, has had the thickening agent removed because black moisture cured urethanes provide better finish without that thickening agent. Historically, black moisture cures don't usually provide a flawless finish but we are consistently working so we can provide you with a better product.

Mastercoat Extreme Permanent Rust Sealer & Pit Filler is a paste: resin and pigment for filling in extreme pitting. We brought this product out for all of you that steal the pigment from the bottom of the can to fill in pinholes and pitting. This should be applied with a Bondo spreader in multiple thin coats to prevent blistering. It can be diluted with thinner for a brushable consistency, and further reduction to spray. Mastercoat Extreme Permanent Rust Sealer is very versatile product with outstanding corrosion resistance even against pinholes! I've had a piece out for two years and it hasn't budged.
