Chassis Black Finish FAQ

While it does have rust sealing properties, it is not nearly as good of a rust sealer as Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer, and this is why we use it as a topcoat for the rust sealer. Chassis Black only has resin, which blocks moisture only. Permanent Rust Sealer has aluminum to block the oxygen and resin to block the moisture, creating an airtight seal.

Chassis Black Finish Coating is a strong topcoat mostly used on the chassis of a vehicle. It is one part, no hardener needed, and can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed. It is not as durable and chemical resistant as the AG111, but is a still a durable topcoat for strictly under the vehicle. It is not UV stable and comes only in gloss black where AG111 comes in gloss black, satin black, gloss clear, and a few gloss colors.

Yes, you can. You should really use Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer as a primer to prevent rust, though, and Chassis Black as a topcoat. If you're not concerned so much with preventing rust, you should use another primer under the Chassis Black rather than use it totally by itself. Use at least two coats.

Yes, it can be brushed or rolled on. A 4 inch foam roller works well. For a brush, a soft China bristle brush work nicely.

AG111 is a two component coating and Chassis Black coating is a single component, no hardener needed. AG111 comes in gloss black, satin black, and a handful of colors like white, red, or gray. Chassis Black only comes in gloss black. AG111 is UV stable, but Chassis Black is not and should only be used where there is no sun exposure on the vehicle. Chassis Black is a durable and chemical resistant coating, but AG111 is even more durable and chemical resistant (as in, better for road salt protection) than Chassis Black. AG111 should be used for a more professional restoration whereas Chassis Black can be used if you simply want to brush or spray on a chassis to preserve it and you don't have to deal with such things as road salt in your region.

DO NOT put these coatings on a shaker to mix them. Due to the material type, they could build up gases and become a hazard when you try to open them. The lid may blow off.

It is recommended to use two coats over the rust sealers. So two coats of rust sealer, and two coats of Chassis Black Finish.
