WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRU CURE AND METAL PREP?
- Tru Cure is a rust converter. This means it chemically reacts with the iron oxide and converts rust into a black substance, which acts as a primer. This primer is able to be painted over, or left on its own if the goal is just to remove rust from a surface.
- Metal Prep is a rust remover and metal conditioner. It cleans the surface of rust, and leaves behind a zinc film for adhesion for a paint or primer. We recommend Metal Prep for use as a prep for rusted metal surfaces before using Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer.
At the end of the day, both achieve very similar results with slightly differing ingredients. Over the years, many of our customers have expressed that they are comfortable with using a rust converter instead of a rust remover, and vice versa. This is the main reason we offer both types. One converts, the other cleans. Which one you feel more comfortable with is entirely up to you.
TRU CURE RUST REMOVER & CONVERTER DATA AND INSTRUCTIONS
Blended in a two-part mix to self neutralize, and deposits a thin but tough protective film of approx. .0006".
Formulated from a phosphoric acid base; a mild acid which is. easy to apply. It is not a concentrate and is ready to use without dilution; however, as much as 25% pure water may be added to reduce drying time in very humid weather conditions.
Should not be washed off of objects to be painted to insure an adequate film is formed. It should be washed from fine metals such as brass, bronze, copper or porcelain surfaces, which will etch with prolonged exposure.
Should also be washed thoroughly from concrete, ceramics, other masonry and pigmented painted surfaces. It will do an excellent job of removing rust stains from such surfaces but will continue to react on calcium and pigments until it is rinsed or allowed to dry thoroughly.
Penetrates into hard to get to places, covers approximately 1000 square feet per gallon and may be applied with spray, sponge, cloth, painter's mitt or brush.
Eliminates the need for expensive sandblasting, scraping, wire brushing or sanding for many applications. IT IS IMPORTANT TO GIVE CHEMICALS TIME TO WORK!
Removes light stains immediately and heavier rust in approximately 30 minutes. (Heavy scale (old chipped paint should be removed first by sandblasting, scraping, wire brushing or sanding). After physically removing all rust it is best to wait a few hours to allow the surface to oxidize before applying Tru Cure.
May be used on many surfaces ranging from metal to fiberglass and for auto, marine, wrought iron farm equipment, air conditioning and recreational equipment applications.
Will extend the life expectancy of painted objects 3 to 5 times longer providing care is taken to insure a good and complete cure before painting. (Cured surface must be thoroughly dry before painting to prevent blistering).
DO NOT RINSE WITH WATER! SURFACE MUST BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE PAINTING! PAINTED SURFACES TREATED WITH RUST CURE LAST UP TO FIVE TIMES LONGER WHEN PROPERLY CURED.
